NAMI Hillsborough Names Natasha A. Pierre as Executive Director

NAMI Hillsborough, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, announced the appointment of Natasha A. Pierre as Executive Director, effective July 1, 2020. She is the first to hold the position for the affiliate since its inception in 1987.

Pierre is a professional speaker, author, and life and career coach. She served as the vice president of NAMI Hillsborough’s Board of Directors since June 2019, and she brings to the role 20 years of lived experience, and numerous industry certifications including a Social Security Administration Work Incentives Planner credential from Cornell University.

“We are excited by the passion Natasha brings to the organization,” said Patrick S. Heidemann, President of NAMI Hillsborough, “and we’re looking forward to expanding the NAMI mission in the coming year.”

The search for an executive director was led by a NAMI Hillsborough Board of Directors’ search committee from January through May 2020. The committee identified several candidates with the values and leadership qualities necessary to lead the organization, and ultimately selected Pierre.

“I am honored to step into this role at a time when mental health is front of mind for our nation and world,” said Pierre. “It’s important that we get the support, education, advocacy and outreach to those who need it most.”

In addition to her work in mental health advocacy, Pierre has more than 20 years collective experience in corporate development, nonprofit management, media relations and political strategy.

NAMI Hillsborough provides advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives. NAMI Hillsborough has hosted public awareness events, including Mental Illness Awareness Week and Strides for Mental Health Awareness Run/Walk, to fight stigma and encourage understanding. NAMI works with the public on a daily basis to ensure Hillsborough County understands the importance of mental health.
